Learn about our partnership with Switzerland for the Oceans

An interview with Claudia Heck, Co-Founder of Switzerland for the Oceans

Claudia (CH4oceans), Damien and Luchia (CH4oceans)

Making a positive impact for the environment

In 2017, one client raised our attention about the negative impact on the environment of the plastic cups we were offering in our studio. This client was also a volunteering member of Switzerland for the Oceans, a non profit organisation that helps to preserve the vitality of the oceans.

One of the first initiative we decided was to develop an environmental friendly Booster bottle to replace the plastic cups in our studios and to offer the proceeds from the bottle sales (CHF 2.5 per bottle) to Switzerland for Oceans.

In the first 3 months, we sold 73 bottles and were able to donate CHF183. We wanted to thank all our clients who purchased the bottles and hope they will play a role in being a little reminder about the importance of small gestures in preserving the environment.

In the interview below, Claudia is explaining us more about CH4oceans and what we can do individually to play our part in fighting this environmental challenge.

We are also working with Switzerland for the Oceans on other initiatives. We will notably invite you to community classes on the 8th of June, Ocean’s day. We will keep you informed closer to the date.

Booster Transform:
What does your organisation do?

Claudia:

Switzerland for the Oceans was founded in 2017 as a 100% volunteer-based not-for-profit organisation promoting ocean vitality. We are primarily focusing on fundraising activities and looking to bring together organisations and individuals engaged in community inclusive projects.

Booster Transform:

What do you mean by “community inclusive projects” – what type of projects do you support?

Claudia:

We support a variety of projects, e.g. around sustainable fishing, animal protection or dedicated marine conservation areas. Rather than a specific topic, we look for a certain philosophy and attitude towards project goals and execution approach – ocean vitality, to us, includes flora, fauna and human beings. Projects that look to generate benefits for all stakeholders, and especially projects that are big in purpose and efficient in execution.

Booster Transform:

What are your organisation’s goals for the future?

Claudia:

We had a good first year – building up the core organization, on-boarding volunteers and most prominently, fundraising through our September Zürich to Monaco Cycle Ride. We were able to send funds to three important projects, all located in the Mediterranean Basin.
For 2018, we want, of course, be able to send bigger cheques to important projects! We are currently working on a number of initiatives, including another edition of our Cycle Ride in September.

We are also looking to recruit a few more volunteers to support us – anybody interested is more than welcome to get in touch!

Booster Transform:

Why did you decide to partner with Booster Transform?

Claudia:

One of our founding members had been training with you for a while, and through some conversations early in the life of Switzerland for the Oceans, it turned out that Booster was keen to support, initially through promoting the 2017 Cycle Ride, and then through the fabulous bottle sales idea, which we hope will inspire more studios to ban single use plastic!

Booster Transform:

How will you use the proceeds of the sales of Booster Transform glass bottles (Fr 2.5 per bottle)?

Claudia:

What is sure is that the money raised will go to a community inclusive project – what we yet have to decide is which one. With plastic as the theme, we have some projects in mind, and you will be able to inform your clients in the coming months.

Booster Transform:

What are some things people can do in order to help preserve the oceans?

Claudia:

Buying the Booster Transform reusable bottles is a great start! Tune into the news and debate about our oceans. Learn about the problems and opportunities affecting the oceans (not just about plastic) and become educated on how individuals can evolve their own choices that in turn will support ocean vitality for everyone. And not least, find and support a specific organisation or community that is looking to re-establish a better balance between human beings and our precious oceans.

Booster Transform:

How can people get in contact with you? How do people make a donation to your charity? How can they help you?

Claudia:

Visit our website, where people can learn about projects we support, make an online donation, sign up as volunteers, review the fundraising events we have past and present, or simply email us their thoughts and questions – we look forward to hearing from you!
